Renfrew Community Association Tiny Tots Co-operative Playgroup is run by a committee of parent volunteers. The program is geared towards children not yet in school, so includes ages ranging from new borns to pre-schoolers. We host a parented non-structured playtime in an environment where children can have fun as well as learning and developing their skills in sharing, interactive play and creativity.
We have been running for quite a few years now and the playgroup has evolved constantly throughout this time but the biggest changes came in 2011 when we moved into our dedicated home very kindly provided for us by the Renfrew Community Association. The completely renovated trailer is very safe, bright and airy and we have decorated it with lots of fun decals and posters to turn it into a great environment for the tots to play in. There is a matted area at one end which is where babies can play with exersaucers and other age appropriate toys. The main area, as you can see in the photos has a large number of toys, ranging from cars to a kitchen to costumes for playing dress up and much more in between. We change our toys quite frequently and are always adding to our collection.
Having our own space means we can open up 5 days a week, which gives our members more opportunity to attend. We operate a drop in system, so once you have registered you can come along as often as you like. We meet Monday to Friday, 9.30 – 11am and you are more than welcome to come along for a trial visit before you register.
During the year we hold a number of parties and events, which are all run by our parent volunteers. These parties have grown over the years and are hugely successful and enjoyable for both tots and parents. Christmas parties even include a special visit by Santa, and our End of Year Party in June includes a visit from the Farm Corral from Butterfield Acres. Prior to each event we hold a craft week where the tots can work on a large variety of simple event related projects, such as making Christmas Tree decorations and Halloween masks.
We also run our gently used clothes, toy and equipment sale every April. This is our major fundraiser for the year and raises enough money to fund all aspects of Tiny Tots for the year.
As well as being fun for the children it’s also a great place for parents to meet each other and lots of great friendships have started at Tiny Tots. So come along and check us out. You can register on Registration day in September, or any time throughout the year.
